im almost positive that the drivers head will not follow the steering wheel to watch the tv while the steering wheel is spinning...if the driver wanted to put his own life in danger by taking the airbag out so be it.....but its not up to us to determine when that individual uses the tv....

Ok ... everyone chill a bit....

First... they weren't given a fine because of the TV... they were given the fine because they removed the airbags which are a safety feature.
It'* illegal to tamper/remove safety features like airbags and seatbelts.

Second... they didn't install the TV on the TV show "Pimp my Ride" they just advertised it locally, and that'* when the feds got wind of it.

Again, the problem w/ the TV isn't the fact that there is a TV in the front of the car viewable by the driver... but the fact that the airbag was removed.

For this... I would have to agree with the feds. Unless the car is just a "show car" and not driven on public roads.

Now, TVs in the front of the car, I support. I'm trusting (which is a mistake) that people will use them with common sense (which I know all won't). But if I were to have a TV in the front of my car, I would. However, if/when you use the TV would be something YOU could control as a driver. IF/WHEN an airbag deploys would not be.

That'* my 2cents Cdn....

Thanks Merlin for getting here first. Reading your post calmed me down a bit

I agree with you and drifter. I agree with the fuzz.

You guys are arguing moot points that don't even apply, because nobody has EVER been charged with what you guys are arguing about... make sense?

There is no crime in having a screen up in the front seat (in view of the driver). If that screen has "driving assists" or controls, it can even be on while you are driving.

The only thing that there should be a debate about is the disableing of a driver side airbag.

If you get in a traffic crash, and your airbags deploy, a collision center CANNOT fix your car unless they replace the air bag system. Simple as that. If you car was equipt with them, you have to have them there.

The passenger''* airbag is a different story, as I do not know the laws on that at all.

TORQUE, just out of curiousity, are you one of those people who always thinks the government is out to get you? Give me a break, the govt does not make laws to get your money. It may be a fortunate side effect, but it is surely not the sole purpose.

I would say MOST if not all moving violations are in place for SAFETY reasons. Speeding, reckless, careless, passing laws, and our favorite "screen" laws are all for safety. Even laws against ground effects are in place for safety...they distract people (just like TV monitors).

Now about helmet laws. Yeah, if people are dumb enough not to wear a helmet, that is their fault if they get hurt. I think earlier in the thread airbags were also mentioned in the same context. If people want to disable their airbags, then that is their fault if they get hurt.

Yes, this is true...to a certain extent. But think about if you were the one to hit a biker without a helmet. Or if you hit the driver who removed his airbag to put a TV in. That person is now dead because of their stupidity, and YOU were the one who killed them. And they didn't even have to die. It would be a hard thing that you would have to live with for the rest of your life. Could you deal knowing that you had killed someone, even if they were dumb?

show me in my text where is said that it was the governments sole purpose to make money...you cant i never said that, however, that is a major part of the reason......we do not live in a society where health comes before wealth because if that was the case and i needed a serious medical issue taken care of i would get treated first then i would figure out how to pay for it, instead it is the exact opposite.

look, i wish death on no one, but if they didnt wear their helmet or switched their airbag with a tv then they are facing the consequences of their actions not me......im not saying by removing the airbag they are not at risk,,,all im saying is that its their choice.

Anyone familier w/ Cavalcade of Customs? Thats a showcase of pimped out cars w/ every concievable gadget. But they are for show. What if the police showed up at the C of C, and handed out tickets to everyone that had thier cars customized w/ that sort of chit? Isn't that along the same lines? If it'* customized for show, it'* for show.
