Well, a little off topic, but I need advice...
What do you guys know about early 90'* Lumina Z34 coupes? Just wondering... There'* one that sits right acroos from my work. I guy who works there says it belongs to a 30-40-something year-old woman and it has somewhere around 75k on it, he couldn't remember. She'* a friend of the oil change place'* boss, so the guys wheel it out to the front lawn every day with the for sale sign on it, and bring it back inside the shop before they close. Lots of people have come to look at it, he says, but none have come back a second time. He thinks she'* asking too much and that'* the problem, somewhere around 3k, he thinks. He says she'* fed up with not being able to sell it, and might take as low as $1500 for it This was all just in casual conversation, and he is an aquaintence of mine, so I doubt that he'* trying to help her out by embellishing anything or something. It'* got a 3.4 V6 in it, and I've heard that it can trump some early, even mid-90'* Camaros and Mustangs! So... any opinions and info? Thanks again guys I know this board is about bonnies and bonnie-related stuff, but... well... please help :p

Well, I can tell you that it has the 3.4 DOHC, which was good motor for me, but no one else apparently. SSEimatt bought a cutty supreme with that motor and it threw a bearing the same day. That engine can have some expensive problems if it wasnt taken care of well.

My father owned a 90 Lumina with the 3.1. He always had nothing but good things to say about it'* reliability. If I remember correctly, he did say that he had a reocurring proplem with the front end. Warped rotors I think it was.

Hmmm...
Well, I know the first time I saw it I thought: Okay, it'* a Lumina, it'* sporty, and a kid probably owns it. That'* 3 strikes right there! But I might reconsider, given the supposed circumstances... I've heard the same thing about that engine though :( We'll see...

Oh god.
I had bad luck with my 3.4L DOCH. I've spoke to 10 mechanics, my dad has spoke to many shop owners they all say the same thing basically, its not a good motor, when it starts to go its expensive, even more so than a 3800. Im really sorry i had to find it out the hard way, im loosing 2900 on it.

I had a 1992 Z34 a few years back it was real nice very fast I got 3 speeding tickets within the year I had it. The 3.4 takes a lot of up keep you need to be vigillent with oil chages every 3000 miles also the motor has a rubber timing belt which needs to be changed every 60,000 miles this requires almost a tear down of the motor I had it done at a dealer I think it cost almost $500 u.*.. Also the car only had 40,000 mmiles on it and it smoked when I would start it I,m not trying to bash these cars butt this is what I experinenced Like I said it was real fast hope this helps

My son got a lumina with the 3.1 and we had to cut a hole in the engine compartment to change the cam. One lobe fully worn off. Save your money and find something with the 3.8L.
