Tranny rebuilds
Before you lock this thread out.....just wanted to say that I was thinking of rebuilding my wifes Caravan transmission....a transmission is a wonder of engineering for sure....but with time and patience....just about anything can be accomplished. The only tool you need to rebuild the clutch packs in a A604 is a snap ring pliers...who said chrysler over-engineers things? My 02 cents.

Well, that makes sense on why it got locked.....Jeeeez.
Can we sticky a DIY Trans Rebuild post in every thread and lock it, because the general consensus is that no one recommends even contemplating the idea.

I would attempt it, but the only problem is that I know it would fail, and that would result in my being very very angry.... Car left to burn, or parked in the Indian River Lagoon...LMAO... J/K
I have seen too many FWD rebuilds go very bad.... In some cases worse that what they started with...
Its incredibly hard to find a shop that can truely do a good rebuild, Some are very good at what they do....
I have found that a Factory Reman is pretty much better than any rebuild you'll find... Again that not to say that someone couldn't do it, or that there isn't a shop out there that could... Its very rare...
I have driven a few cars with SRTA Hydramatic transmissions.... I'd have to say those are some of the best I have ever seen in terms of driveability, shift quality and the like...
I have seen a few FWD rebuilds that pretty much destroyed the internals in due time... Others just failed to function... I saw one THM440-T4 that was rebuilt 3 times, It was the third shop that got it right...
I was ready to pull a 60-E apart just to see what guts it had.... But it was not ever going to go into my car.... If I put it back together it would never move again....LMAO

There'* only one shop here in the cities that I would ever trust to rebuild one, and that'* because I seen them do it on so many different cars. Smartest SOB'* in the world when it comes to trans work. I had them build a trans for my truck and I've put it through hell and it'* also built for 500hp. Very honest and KNOW what they're doing.
If you wanna try it, try it. No one is stopping you. Your time, your car, your parts, and your money.
