traffic court **UPDATE june 8th** page 3
Well the day has come. I'm am to appear in traffic court at 8:30 am. Its for doing 74 in a 55 mph zone. As a depart wish me luck cause 140 bucks is a bit steep for speeding I understand why there are fines and I know that the police are just doing there job and I appreciate that. Its just that I'm hoping to get off this ticket cause its the same week as my tutition payment as well as having to pay for a bunch of college books. :(

I put guilty, only because I don't know any reasons or information behind it.
Is there any reason why you were driving 74?
Were there any circumstances that might point to your innocence?

I'm with boosty, although there are few acceptable reasons for driving that far over the speed limit. Actually, I don't think there are any in the court'* eyes.
Not trying to bash or anything, but there is usually a reason you get written for the whole thing In town many people that are going 15 over only get written for 5 unless they have an attitude. Not saying you had one, and you were more than 15 over, but...

No particular reason. Its just that I was born with a led foot. I think its just that the state makes their money this way. its the second date the first I rescheduled and both times it is packed(ill post the pics later today) so I think they're just looking for cash. The trooper that pulled me over was steaked out by a popular street racing area (I wasn't involved in any street racing ) he was waiting to pick off all the racers as they got on the parkway.

Nick..Thanks for that laugh.
I read your post to say
Yes, I was speeding
Yes, where I got caught is a known speed trap
Yes, I drive fast like Boosty does.
And No...I wasn't street racing.
My advice would be bring cash...

Yeah, from the sounds of it you were in the wrong. However, unless there was a glaring error on the ticket, the most you'll get is the ticket reduced. Most courts don't drop the tickets.
As for them trying to make money, they don't actually make that much money on tickets anymore since NY changed the rules on it.
And I am with Bill, you sped through a known speed trap. Trying to make money... nah. Trying to keep that section of rode safe for all motorist due to it'* notoriously high traffic violation, yes.
A little side note. My roommate and I just went monday to the same court at the same time for the same offence (speeding, he went faster) on the same road, just 2 weeks apart. The judge said that minimum fine, atleast here, is $90 plus $55 court fees for speeding. That would be a 5 over ticket. The judge was nice to me and reduced my 52 in a 35 to a failure to obey traffic control device ($50 + $55 court) and reduced my roommates from 72 in 35 to 45 in a 35 ($140 + $55) so you can base yours off that. Most of the time you don't have to plead your case and they'll offer you a reduced fine. I suggest taking it.

Here they don't accept checks. The cash part is necessary.
Wow..NY court fees seem pretty high. Hope for the reduction like Jimmy said.
