Too far?! Motorcycles being required to have abs

I never learned to ride so it doesn't matter.driving fast with 2 or 4 makes no diff if you don't run it CAREFULLY or in a proper setting.Seen my share of bad accidents,as I'm sure we all have.Things happen .no ryhyme or reason.Maybe abs is a good thing. My one experience in a car abs just didn't do the job on a wet surface.Yes tires were good. This was on a '95 Taurus wagon.guess I've been driving older cars w/o abs for too long.

ABS is a great thing and I am all for it on a bike.
Hell, leave safety features up to the idiots buying the cars and there would be no seatbelts, no airbags, no ABS, and no anything else.
Driving is like sex. Everyone thinks they are awesome at it, and without many years of experience and the patience to slow down and consider others, it usually ends badly. I get so tired of that mentality of people that think they can control the brakes better than an ABS system can or that ABS reduces a cars performance in some way.
I wear a helmet too. Nothing cool about spreading gray matter on the pavement.
On a side note, what do you expect from an old car like that? My 93 Bonneville'* ABS isn't worth hardly a crap either. My old 98 contour I sold last year was a world of improvement over it. My 91 Explorer... junk ABS, same with the 95 Grand Prix I used to have. I find ABS didn't start getting good until the late 90s. 07 Eclipse.... Beautiful car to drive in the ice and snow, even with it'* wide stock tires.
Guess it is harder to appreciate ABS when you live in Florida and have never seen bad weather....

Well, what do yu want from a Ford? hehehe
I like the ABS~T/C~Stabiltrack on the Bonneville. When I need sheer traction (and there are times you do) I turn T/C off. But for coming down my steep 1/4 mile driveway when it'* iced over, the ABS keeps the front straight almost effortlessly and you can really feel the system working. And Stabltrack really helps you keep a decent speed up on snow covered highways.

I'm with Dan. I've never had a desire whatsoever to ride a motorcycle or rocket and never will. Hell I don't even touch dirt bikes, I go 4 wheels even when off road.

My 2005 Honda VTX1800 has ABS. Honda has been installing ABS on their bikes for many years - especially the heavier cruisers and touring bikes. My bike is also equipped with a proportioning braking system. When I apply the front brake, the rear brake is also applied and the more you apply the front brake, the more the rear brake digs in.
ABS is good as a tool to help the rider keep traction and let the weight of the bike work for you and not against you. But, the best thing is to have experience, ride responsibly, ride with purpose, anticipate all hazards and drivers actions and be defensive in your actions.
I've been riding for 33 years and have enjoyed every opportunity to be on the road on two wheels.

Same here, and having 5 feet of steel between me and the genius that pulls in front of me is always a plus too!

Just as an aside, Much of the populated areas of alaska have a more temperate climate than the upper midwest due to their proximity to the ocean.

The bike I wrecked didn't have ABS on it, and even if it did it wouldn't haved saved me. Just saying is all.
Also, comparing needing ABS in Florida like you need it in snow is retarded. I live in north Florida, just an hour or so south of the Alabama border. I got the "snow" this year. Didn't do anything to the roads, considering it melted right off. Also, hurricanes, really? Nobody drives in hurricanes except storm chasers, and they use big SUV'* to do it anyway.
