Summer Fun - RESULTS! (and some pictures)
A friend and I got a little project to do for the summer...
We are building a bump n' run car.
For those of you who don't know what a bump n run is, its basically a demo derby, and a dirt track race put together. You race around an oval but you can smash people out of your way.
The car we are using is a 93 Chevy Caviler, got it for $200.
Right now the interior is stripped except for drivers seat. The fuel tank is out, the fuel cell is in the back seat, the battery is where the passenger seat was. The exhaust is cut before the cat. All the windows are gone, doors are chained shut, and we are working on the "roll cage" this week.
What we still have to do is find a mud flap (has to be full width of the car and 3" from the ground), paint the car (walmart rattlecans), find rims and truck tires and "persuade" them to fit , and the most important thing is figure out what we are doing about a fuel pump.
The local McDonald'* Owner is going to be sponsoring us so we are going to be painting the car red with yellow accents, and its going to have the golden arches on the hood and trunk, and on the mud flap its gonna say "I'm Lovin It"
Now on with the pics... these pics aren't up to date they are a few days old. If i go to work on it tonight i will try and get some updated pics but i'm not promising anything. :P
But i will promise you that I will take pictures after it is finished, all painted up and looking pretty

that sounds like a blast can you modify the wheel wells so that any potential hits won't push anything into the tire and cut it? or does the body have to remain stock?
if it can be modded some I would also check the bumpers out, and check to see if ( when ) they get pushed in if they will affect turning or anything

Yea we are going to take either a Saws-All or Torches to the wheel wells so that we can get the Tires to fit. And most likely the plastic covering on the bumpers is going to come off. If we don't take it off then we will just cut off the spots that could get into the tires.

A few updated pics...
The Slits in the hood are for "fire safety" its so they can get quick access with a fire extinguisher, the hole in the front is to chain the hood down.

Bottom Corner of the pic on the hood you can see our jerry-rigged fuel pump

Not to exciting pics, but there isn't much exciting to take pics of right now. :P
Right now we are working on getting the fuel cell all "wired up" and get rid of all the leaks, and hopefully try and get it started with the fuel cell, and the jerry-rigged fuel pump.

Just a small update...
no pics right now sorry
The car is running, we got the fuel-pump working in the fuel cell. It sounds pretty mean with the exhaust cut off right after the manifold
We got the "roll-bar" installed. And we have one coat of red on the body. Tomorrow will be another coat of red, and start with the yellow stuff (Golden Arches, and accents)
I won't be able to get pics to you til the earliest Monday, but i will try.
What we have left to do:
Construct Boxes for fuel cell, and battery
Install Mud-Flap
Find and install meatier tires
no pics right now sorry

Final Update:
Its pretty much finished. All we have to do to finish it is find bigger tires, and get them to fit...
Things we have done since these pics:
"McDonalds" written on the roof (like where general lee was written)
Names on Doors
Team Name Painted on Front Fenders

A few vids:
This vid is of it taking off... sounds pretty mean w/ no exhaust
This vid is of the special present we put in it
And we were bored so we hooked up the windsheild sprayer so that it sprayed out the front of the car
