There are excellent odds the assistant prosecuter will reduce the charge. For example - Speeding ticket fines go to the state, Failure to obey traffic control device fines go to the Town, personal experience. Be prepared for a max fine and fees thou.

I got an 81 in a 55 in January (back when I had boost ). I showed up at my court date (wasn't required to go, but went anyways), and not ONLY did I get it down from 175 to 155, he gave me 6 months to pay. My insurance didn't go up at all.

First Haro huh? That'* what we call em here. As you have heard, he'* had his share.
Anyways, yeah, show up at court. I wouldn't recommend trying any BS excuse though. My experience is that Judges don't like BS.

As posted above, don't try to make excuses. The judge works on facts and the law. The fact you broke the law has nothing to do with why you did it. If you are straight forward with them they will likely be willing to cut you a break for your honesty, since everyone else trys to weasel out.
Haro, do you know if MN still has "continuos for dismissal"? That'* where your first tix doesn't go on your record as long as you have no more traffic violations within two years time.

I got out of a ticket because I went to court and told the judge that I had been travelling on one road that the posted limit was 45 and turned on to another road that had no speed limit sign for 7/10ths of a mile. When I was the sign (30 mph) I also saw the cop who then gave me a ticket. I had gone back and clocked the mileage to make sure how far it was. The judge looked at the cop and asked if that was true. The cop said yes and the judge dismissed the charges. Within 3 days there was a sign posted as soon as you turned onto that road.

Inquire about traffic school to keep it off your record. It'll cost you a registration fee, but it may keep the ticket from showing up on your record. Worked for me twice so far. Worth a morning of your time, possibly.
