Actually it was a 3100 he was working on, lol.

As for the Dex-cool, I can't stand the stuff.

I have a 2003 Malibu LS and just before the warranty was going to run out ( due to HWY mileage) wich is 100,000 kms, it looked like the upper intake was leaking and the anti-freeze was mixing with oil. Well it wasn't it was the Dex-Cool that had already broken down. It was about a year and a half old and already broke down big time.

That is interesting. If the antifreeze is mixing with oil, it won't matter what'* being used as antifreeze (DexCool or traditional anti-freeze). Sounds like you have an intake gasket issue. They're very prone to failing on the 60 degree v6s.

The anti-DexCool rage always made me laugh. As long as the fluid is topped off, there'* nothing wrong with the stuff (besides, it'* not safe to let the green anti-freeze get low simply because you don't want to overheat). I've had it in 4 cars now. Doesn't bother me. Keep an eye on it. We had a 97 Cavalier. Sold it a year ago with 184,000 miles on it. Never touched the anti-freeze. Right now our Bonnie, Firehawk, and C1500 all have DexCool. Never had an issue with it.

DexCool works better with aluminum engines from what I have heard, its meant to be used as a long term maintenance solution. Most new cars stress no need for tune ups for 80-100K miles...why?

DexCool coolant
Dexron III Tranny fluid
Platinum plugs
Michelin tires (so damn hard they take forever to wear)

All of these items are designed to last a long time in cars.

If you read my post you would see that I did NOT have an intake gasket leak, it was the dex cool that broke down. So I had to get the system flushed and had new Dex-cool put in and it is holding up for now. So all that B.*. about lasting a long time and whatnot is exactly that B.*.

I do keep an eye on it now cause I figure I am going to have to change the Dex-Cool more often than the Green stuff.

How does DexCool break down to cause antifreeze to mix with the oil? Then a simple flush stopped the leak? I don't understand. :?
