Sharing internet connection?

Sharing internet connection?
I live in an apartment complex with probably 6 or so apartments right near me. The 3.0 MB/SEC internet connection is $50/month. I was thinking about seeing if a few neighbors (maybe 2 or 3) would want to share in the connection and chip in $10/month making it pretty even for everyone. Are there any legal issues with this? (sharing of the connection.) Any forseable problems? The way I would do it is just add their MAC address to the router so that they could log into it, it'd be easier than handing out everyone the encryption code to the thing. I'm not sure how I would even go about asking them if they'd be interested to be honest. Just an idea.

I think it sounds a bit risky taking that chance with the cable provider as it may be Illegal. Another reason would be that one or more neighbors may or may not be good with paying their bill on time causing you or someone else to chase them down for it.
It could possibly work out, but not worth the hassle IMO.

I would have to guess that it probably would not be considered legal.
And Tony brings up a good point about everyone paying their fare share.
However, if you had a strong wireless signal ,and didn't block anyone from it, and had a nice neighbor or two who wanted to give you a small gift each month for being such a good neighbor, I don't think that would be wrong.

It should be written into the contract. TV or internet, either one it is considered theft of service. It isn't legal here. I've never heard of anyone getting prosecuted for cable theft here, they just unhook it.
It sounds like it would be more trouble than it is worth unless you were tight with all your neighbors. And who is going to pay for all that ethernet cable? That stuff isn't cheap. And how would you run it without it being seen? Possible electrical code issues as well.

Keep in mind though, anyone driving by with criminal intent can also use this signal and possibly hack your system for your information. It would be a gold mine since there would be many open PC'* to this type of threat if you and your neighbors share the connection.
I would either try to find an alternative cheaper service, or dole out the money for it if you can, and keep your PC safe from hacking.
