Keep in mind, Bill, you West Coast guys have more experience with this crap...
I'm pretty sure this is what woke me up this morning. I couldn't figure out why I was suddenly wide awake and uneasy. I knew I wasn't having a nightmare or anything...
Anyway, I think the fault lines under West Salem, IL, are branches of the New Madrid. Let'* all really, REALLY hope that it doesn't knock THAT fault loose...last time the New Madrid went off, the Mississippi ran backwards and Kentucky got a new lake.

EDIT, the temblor was on the Wabash Valley fault area, separated from the New Madrid by about 50 miles.

I woke up sometime around 5am and I usually never do. Maybe this little quake was the cause? I'd like to humor myself and believe so.

It all depends on the composition of the crust. The crust of the midwest is mucher harder than the west coast, so tremors can be felt many times farther from the epicenter. There must be a soft spot between the epicenter and MN.

Woke me up. The closet doors were rattling like crazy. I didn't notice the aftershock, but thinking back on it, I think it showed up in some of my lab data. I wondered how that spike could have possibly gotten there. Don't take readings during an earthquake.
