"real" gas or ethanol gas

That is interesting Mike.
As I stopped today for fuel, I filled with 94 as I normally do.
Photo: Person saved 5 cent per liter on a $100 of 91 and still got ethanol fuel..LOL!!
I put a check mark on what they should have used!!
Chevron here provides us 4 grades (octane) of fuel..nice!
Gas priced fell recently here..good!

Dang, even my 91 octane only goes for 3.75 gallon. But that'* E85. Because of Chemung Speedway(Bodine Brothers) and a couple of smaller tracks in the NY/PA area, some of our stations carry 110 octane (race fuel) at $9 per gallon.

Mike just wait until someone from the UK chimes in on their prices!
So is E85 15% ethanol ?
I am getting the feeling that in the US it is getting difficult to buy non ethanol fuels then?
We are lucky as the Chevron refineries are here and get this..we ship our gas to stations in Bellingham,Seattle Washington..for cheap $..but we have to pay the super $ here. It is all about tax here including a 8 cents per litre road & bridge tax which they will increase again in the Van area. If I go 35 miles out of the big city prices drop 10 cents per litre.

E85 is 85% ethanol, 15% gas, intended for use in Flex Fuel vehicles.
E15 is 85% gas, 15% ethanol, which the EPA has deemed safe for use in many light duty vehicles 2001 and newer, and has allowed it to be sold in the US, but not required.
E10 is 90% gas, 10% ethanol, which is almost impossible to avoid, and is required by a few states.
And yes, it is getting dang hard to find ethanol free these days. As I said, there is 1 station that I know of in a town of 100,000. And the worst part is is that most of our fuel comes from El Paso, which requires Oxygenated Fuel in the winter time, which means they require 2.7% ethanol 10/1 - 3/31.

Is E85 readily available now in US & is there a price difference between E85 & E10 cheaper by how much?
I have seen a few vehicles with the flex fuel badges, but when I did a search for fuel, it sounds like there are only 3 gas stations in Canada, back east, that has it....WOW!
I think I also read somewhere that E85 offers poor mileage especially in V-8 *.
I am sorry to hear that it is difficult to now find real (non ethanol) fuel.
Last time I was in a remote Northern community where I had to fill with 87 (e10) my Buick was having a hissy fit. Lack of power climbing, slight ping, and lost about 7mpg according to onboard computer, which seems pretty accurate.
I hope Chevron keeps the 94 line available for years to come here.
The future sounds like corn fuel though.

Yea, what Art said about the E85.
I seen somewhere about a clear plastic tank (about 15 gallon) where you put X gallons of E85 in, and X gallons of water in. Agitate the tank, and at the bottom of the tank was a petcock that allowed you to drain off the alcohol/water mix and you have regular gas left over.

e10 has been mandatory in NY for a long time, however its not as big a deal as people make out. im still getting 32mpg/36hwy with my 07, my father inlaw gets 32 on the same type of commute i do. he has a 3800 leasbre. the only thing with it is you cant let it sit in anything that has rubber lines. i put stabil in my tractor, mowers, wood splitter, and atv'* and have never had to replace a line or get into the carb on anything. i have been using e10 in those forever

When it comes to Staybil (up until recently) only the Marine grade was formulated for ethanol fuels. So when you are buying the stabilizer ensure it says for ethanol or it wont work correctly.
Here is an interesting video showing samples of what happens to ethanol fuel..yummy gunk!

I remember back in the 90'* when the government started required gas stations to sell a ethanol blend fuel during the winter months. It was to help with air quality but it sure did ruin a lot of injectors in the late 80'* early 90'* cars before they changed the design of the injectors to hold up to the ethanol. I know the Caddy 4.5 and 4.9 injectors hated the ethanol.

Ethanol based fuels should contain both a stabilizer and a water remover.
I see a letter going to Chevron soon...LOL>
So I guess when that new or used car on the lot has been sitting there without fresh fuel for 1 month + , common sense would dictate that Sta-Bil and water remover be installed for everything on the lot! (first thing to do after buying a car)
I also wonder how much water potential actually lies at the bottom of fuel stations tanks. Do they have separators? I have seen first hand the lack the gas stations filtration maintenance, as dirt, sand & gravel over the years accumulating at the bottom of my motorcycle/boat tanks too.
