An employee of the McDonald’* at Fifth Street and South Grand Avenue was not seriously injured Monday afternoon when she backed another employee’* personal vehicle through the lobby window of the restaurant.
Police and paramedics were sent to the store about 2 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about the incident. Komeko D. Cobbins, 27, of Brandon Drive, told police she had just finished her shift and was going to pick up her children using her co-worker’* 1991 Pontiac Bonneville.
Cobbins said she remembered backing out and the next thing she knew, the car crashed through the window on the south side of the restaurant, shattering the glass.
A witness told police she was pulling into the lot and stopped as Cobbins backed out. The woman said it appeared Cobbins was suffering a medical episode as her eyes became large and she appeared to have a hard time staying awake.
Cobbins then circled backward and struck the window.
The Bonneville had minor damage.
Cobbins was taken by ambulance to St. John’* Hospital for treatment and was released.
At least two people inside the restaurant were cut by pieces of glass, but were not seriously injured.
Motorists continued using the drive-up window as employees cleaned up the mess and police investigated the accident. No citations were issued, because the crash occurred on private property, police said.
