)As for the damage its self, from what i have seen at work (i work at a body shop for those that dont know) and from what you describe. the dent may be able to remove without any filling or sanding if the body shop has a paintless dent repair guy come in and do it (ding king or dent tech are two in our area i beleave) I dont remember what one we use at our shop :? and as for the scratched they almore always are only paint transfer that look like scratches but are not, and can be remover with good thinners, and polished out. But as for the mirror well no amount of polishing will fix that
...just some ideas as to get the prices down

Not the most accurate way to get a quote - but the real numbers, when that high, aren't too far off. Buddy of mine paid $5k+ a year for insurance and he lives OUTSIDE of town, where it'* a lot cheaper. He had a '86 beater Accord...Sad thing is, it wouldn't surprise me when an Ontarian gets their insurance canceled for something like a parking lot incident.
Horrible to hear about this Jim, do what you gotta do and git 'er done.

Honestly Jim, you've taken the high road and been great about it. May be time to explain the option of pay or it'* taken care of through insurance. The email etc prove she was there and feel responsible.

Heh...well she called last night. I told her I would speak to my guys at Fix.
We got it down to $550. I told her $550 final cash offer or give me your insurance information.
Now we wait.

Jim, I applaud your patience and willingness to work with her. Choosing to be nice sometimes means you will have to pay the price yourself. I hope this time is not one of them.
I do, however, think that you should always get the insurance information up front. My experiences taught me that. Some expensive lessons.

I guess I believe in karma. Do good to others and fate will reward you, despite the difficulties and transgressions that others may inflict on you.
However she has a nice reminder of what shes done. There is a nice black paint transfer and dent near her door handle. Each time she opens that door....she'll see it

Oh man, sorry to hear about your car. It'* been a bad week for side mirrors (just had a friend who got his taken off in a parking lot). Hopefully, she'll realize you've saved her a large headache and pay up at least the lowest quote you gave her. I think, despite your current frustration (which is well justified-I promise I'm not going to give you the "move on and deal" line 
:P ), you will have done a better thing for both of you if she does what is her right.
I agree with a comment along the way that really this is just about righting a wrong, not so much teaching her a lesson. IF the story went the way she said, it was a accident which may have been the result of her being slightly careless, but not doing anything overtly malicious or reckless. She shouldn't have to pay for something like this (through insurance) for a long time, but again, assuming the fact she just antes up and pays what is due.
