If you're that against MS, then Ubuntu just released their latest version. Go install that. And there are other options
But, if you insist on running Windows, but refuse to install little things like "We want to make sure you didn't pirate this" then don't complain when your updates do quit working.
It'* 1.2 meg... You've probably got a picture of your car bigger than that on your computer. And yes, it'* going to check each time. MS didn't become the OS of choice by being stupid. "Yep, it'* legit, see ya later..." They are gonna check each time you check for updates...
Heck, stupid InstallShield has a live update program that bothers me more than anything MS wants me to install. Except IE 7 that is. I tried it, I don't like it, stop trying to force me to upgrade to it......
My point is, it'* a tiny program, you know what it does, and you know what it claims it will do if you don't use it. Your decision......

i dont understand the issue behind this...
all it does is check to make sure you are using a legitimate copy of window.. is it wrong of Microsoft to know if/who is using pirated versions ITS THEIR SOFTWARE.
I dont know about any of the rest of you, but i would much rather have my important security updates to windows than b!tch about a 1.2mb file that does nothing but check that your legit
and i agree with John here, if your so against microsoft there are other options, Mac, Solaris, Linux......

Ubuntu is a very nice, free, version of Linux. I ran it for a little while, but I am used to Windows. And, since almost every computer I own is a Dell, I got tons of Legit copies.
And MS is not Big Brothering you. There are to many anti-MS people and organizations out there for them to get away with that.
