The GTO was not supposed to be retro. When Bob Lutz he said he was not looking for a high production, retro car like the stang. He was looking for something to excite the Pontiac name.
He was wanting a low profile extremely powerful RWD car.
Which BTW the original GTO was the same thing.

Getting of topic as it is I'll run with this: Everyone was all upset about the new GTO looking nothing like the old ones. The first GTOs looked very similar to their sisters from the pontiac line of the time Bonneville, Tempest, Ect. Sure, they all had there subtle differrences but the looked distinctly Pontiac.
Look at the New GTO, then look at the Gran Prix,Bonneville, and other Pontiacs at the time of the GTO'* return. Once again they all looked similar to one another while still having their differrences. In that respect the GTO'* new desighn stuck to tradition.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic.
