neighbors fence
As some of you may know, and most of you not, I got 2 new puppies at the first of the year. Well we have discovered that there are tons of tiny spaces in the neighbors fence where they can get out thru. The fence runs between our backyards but T'* between our houses to close both gaps. The fence will need to be replaced to keep the dogs in the yard without us watching them like hawks. My question is how do I go about letting the neighbors know the fence needs replacing? What I want to do is put up a fence on my side of the property line to replace theirs. I'd be willing to pull their fence, install mine, and T it off to connect to their house as well. Since the issue is with our puppies, and not anything they care about, I'd pay %100 of cost. Of do I just put up a fence on my yard without talking to them at all so we have sude-by-side fences? I get along ok with them, but rarely speak to them. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with something like this.

If they seem like good people, just go over some afternoon and ring their doorbell. Or next time you see them outside washing their car or gardening or something, stop by and tell them exactly what you want to do. I think that'* the best way to handle it.
However, we had some real ******* neighbors and between our yards was an unsightly fence that was on their property. It made that side of our lawn look like crap and my old man got sick of it. So we put up a new fence on our side (only about 6 inches from theirs) and waited for them to take the hint. My dad tried telling him what he was gunna do but the guy was a real dick so we just went ahead with our plans. But if at all possible just do situation #1. I'm sure they wouldn't mind a brand new fence at your expense. Ask if they have any requests as far as size/color/style. After all, they do have to look at it too.

I'm leaning towards option #1 as well. I'd either go with a 6ft chain link or possibly (budget permiting) a 6ft solid wood. I'd brigde the gap from the fence to their house in whatever I did the rest in (pending thier acceptance of it). The gap is only about 6ft long.

Try to keep things as cheap as possible. Go to the neighbor and just start talking about your dogs.
"Hi There, Im your next door neighbor SSEi95. I hope my dogs arent being any trouble to you when they escape from the yard through the hole in the fence. I was thinking of trying to block it off somehow so that my dogs do not escape.............yadda yadda yadda
Good luck!!

The electric collar is an idea, but there'* a better one if it'* only the bottom of that one fence. Get a 1kV pet fence charger and run a single wire along the bottom of that fence. You won't have puppy issues any more.

I don't remember what kind of fence it is, but what would be so hard about patching it? Y'know, some chicken wire or garden fencing over the holes? As long as it'* on "your" side, there shouldn't be much they can say about that....
