Hopefully he made it through the slush storm.... supposed to be around 12" of slush between today, tonight, and tomorrow night.
Hope every thing went well for your mom Andrew.
Best of luck to her in the recovery and take your time heading back to Eagle Lake.

Hey guys!! I am very glad to report that my mom is going EXCELLENT! Let me try to gather my thoughts and tell you as much as I can. The day started with a 3 hour drive to Sioux Falls, SD, my girlfriend Shannon went with, so that really helped. We showed up at the hospital around 11:30. WOW, that hospital is HUGE. We happened to park on the complete opposite side of the hospital from where she was. Took us almost 15 minutes to find her room. We hung out in her PreOp room for a couple hours. During that time, the doctor told us she probably wouldn't remember it since they had her doped up on some pain meds. We decided to test her memory and played that one game, "I'm going on a camping trip and I'm bringing (A) Apples (B) Bananas (C) Camper (D) Dogs.... etc etc.. We played it all the way to Z and she was doing great! Around 3pm is when they actually took her for the surgery. The actual procedure was only supposed to take an hour, but there is a lot of prep and recovery. At around 5:00 we met with the doctor and he told us that everything went great. He said there was a LOT of pressure inside her head, so the shunt should help a LOT. We finally got to see my mom around 7pm and she was wide awake as soon as we walked into the room. The first thing she said? "I'm going on a camping trip and I'm taking..." she made it all the way through. We were all crying tears of joy. It was great to know she was OK. She said that her head pain was gone completely, but there was some tenderness in her abdomen. This is normal because of the shunt that they put in. The only bad thing about the surgery was the amount of hair they had to shave. She was originally told that they would shave a patch the size of an egg, and make an incision the size of a fingernail, however the actual shaved part is almost the entire back side of her head, and the incision is the size of an egg. It does not look pretty at all. She is very concerned because her hair has not been growing because of the meds. She is not allowed to wash her body or hair for 10 days. Shannon and I went to the mall and brought her some cute hats. We got her the huge sunhat types that cover everything. She was so excited to get them. She was taking walks around the hospital showing off her hats and ALL the nurses were complimenting her cute hat. She was beaming. She was told she could go home around 3pm that day, and since the weather was getting pretty bad, Shannon and I decided to leave. She is now recovering at home, which I think is amazing for having a surgery like that and going home the next day. So, thanks again to EVERYONE for your thoughts and prayers, lets hope we are close to the end of this struggle!
