damn that'* awesome, I'm in my second semester of mechanical engineering at college and doing something like that is still down the line... i wish i could build something like that at school I am however working in the machine shop of the Philadelphia Naval Yard this summer as an intern so that might be fun

I was in engineering at college for two years it sucked. :( I just wasn't up to it math wise.
Did you think about putting fenders over the wheels or using full moon type wheels instead of the wire ones for better aerodynamics.
If you have seen the wheels they use for closed circut Olympic Bike races I think those would work best.

We were gonna try the full moon tires..but we ran outta time. Here'* some more pics..yeah they are weird, but we had alot of fun. The cart didnt do so great though..alot of technical difficulties with the chain..long story.
