VGA is analog, DVI is digital, sounds like it'* a digital only monitor as it has no analog input.
DVI into analog works because DVI outputs carry vga within them, which allows one to go from DVI to VGA, but going VGA to DVI requires some sort of hardware..

so i can go from my dvi monitor to my vga laptop with no problems you are saying.?
also i read that i need 2 dual link dvi cables just to view the image on the monitor.?

You are thinking backwards. You need to think output to input, not input to output. Your laptop is the output and your monitor is the input. What Bonnememn is saying is that you can't go from your VGA output laptop into a DVI input monitor. If you had a newer laptop with a DVI output, you could use an external VGA monitor.

There are 3 types of DVI.
DVI-D (digital)
DVI-A (analog)
DVI-I (both)
If your monitor is DVI-D you are out of luck.

From the link you provided.
Will not work with a VGA signal.
The link in my earlier post explains why.
Signal input connector DVI-D enabled. DVI-D cable included
The link in my earlier post explains why.

Furthore it appears this is the same monitor (or same technology) as the Dell 30"
You will also need a dual link video card.
sell the 30" and get a 28" hanns-g.

It has an analog input and an HDMI.
