mothers day rant
so heres my question. what gives someone any right to EXPECT gifts? mothers day is a farce. an excuse for women to expect something that should never be expected. i took my mother and my grandmother out to dinner tonight, as a way to thank them for who they are. but that doesnt make sense. isnt the best way i can thank my mother is to be someone she can be proud of? not someone who repays a debt that cannot be repayed by buying dinner once a year? this is stupid.
shifting gears. if i were married and had a kid, the wife would probably expect a card or something, and be delighted at flowers. but what point? a card or flowers isnt going to make someone feel appreciated who doesnt already, so why try to cover it up by pretending?
basically, one day isnt enough, so why bother? its just an excuse for women to complain when they have to work (i dont hear many father complaining when they have to work on fathers day) and to bitch when they dont have something bought for them. personally, i will never buy my wife anything for mothers day. ill continue taking my mom out to dinner because i owe her everything i can do, but this is IN ADDITION to my weekly visits just to chat - its wrong to put this on a calendar and say "this is the day where you make women feel appreciated." in addition, i will encourage my children to make or buy something for their mother on mothers day.
its a made-up holiday that allows women to complain and feel like they have a right to complain about something that most men just accept as a given.
"oh no. your husband didnt call you while you were at work for 4 hours." boo hoo.
much less will I EVER spend more than a dinner for mothers day. Youve got christmas, a birthday, and an anniversary, you sure as hell arent going to get mothers day when i know for d*mn well im not getting a thing on fathers day, and i dont even get the anniversary. why should mothers be celebrated more than fathers? screw your "women carry the baby" blah blah blah, because we have to put up with you while you do that and make unreasonable demands. and screw your "women deserve it because blah blah blah" because women do not deserve more appreciation than men. it takes two people to have and two people to appropriately raise a child. on that note, why "Mother'* Day" and not a "Non-mother'* Day". how about a day to recognise those that dont contribute to overpopulation. or how about "Non-father'* Day" ? its a stupid holiday. Why should fathers day be considered a joke when we take mother'* day so seriously?
yeah yeah. thank you all you mothers out there for doing what youre supposed to do when you decide that youre old enough to have sex and do indeed, have sex.
the child is the reward.

Well, on the bright side, at least you let out some of your anger.
I do agree with some of the points you made though, although I'm not nearly as pissed about it. Its just another day to me. My boss asked me today "did you call your mom today." So I said "what for???" She said, "Its mothers day" and sounded suprised that I didn't know. I said "oh, I guess I'll call her later." She said, "you BETTER call her."
Hmm.....have about 38 minutes left of mothers day to give her a call...she would probably be pissed now though...

Think thats bad. My stepmom which I dont really like anyway was not happy that I didnt call till 4:00 pm to wish her a Happy Mothers Day. As if i really was required to call at all.
She told my dad that I might as well not called at all if i was gonna call that late.

if i was your dad i would have said,
"k. ill let him know not to call you."
dont complain. your lucky you were called at all. you have no right to expect it, much less be UNGRATEFUL when you get it.

I think of it this way:
I could sit there and bitch and moan about how this shouldn't be a celebrated day.
OR
I could go and actually do something nice for mom, because I can.

mothers day at best gives you an excuse to ignore one of the most important people in your life for another couple months.
at worst, its a sexist holiday made up by large corporations and supported by women all over the country and its sole purpose is to allow women to complain.
maybe i got those switched. but is it just me, or are there going to be complaints regardless? who needs another reason.
oh, and i did do that. i opt for both. i want to bitch about it and i want to do something nice for my mom. but NOT BECAUSE ITS MOTHERS DAY. because she gave me life, with help from my father.

... I can't wait until Father'* Day to hear what you have to say about men. I'll leave it at that.
