Any IRC experts here? I have problem connecting to severs quite a bit. Get the "Software caused connection abort" error. I change the port it trys and sometimes I can get it. But there is not a consistant port that works for all. Is this normal?

At home, yes. Currently I am running if on my work lap top using the hotel wireless. So there is obviously a router here. Use it from work sometimes too. I was wondering if that had someting to do with it. But I do not think they have the ports blocked.

that'* probably it. depending on what hotel you're at, for insurance'* sake, they usually block all of the ports not used by major programs. At your office, it'* probably the same thing. If you can tell me what kind of router you use at your house, I can help with that

just a quick question, what antivirus do you use? the reason i ask is that i know for a fact that McAfee Viruscan enterprise 8.0 blocks irc ports automatically.

Got a linksys at home. Don't have any ports blocked on it. Just have windows firewall, with mIRC set as allow, and use Spybot *&D and AdAware. Its just crazy the way I can connect right to some servers but other I have to fight it to find a port that works.
