The picture of a cat wasn't a joke. Living out in the boonies kinda attracts the nearby mouse population, but we got a coupla cats and now have no more mice.

Another safe trick...

If you have a friend that has cats have them bag up the litter (USED) and pour it around the foundation of your house on the outside. Mice hate the smell of cats and will stop coming around.

All I can really recommend is to get a cat if you don't want to keep up with the trap, or borrow a neighbors.

As for the traps, wet some bread and stick on the trap, It will dry and get stuck nicely. Then you can just reset the trap; the dried bread will still be there unless you let it sit all night after its been sprung.

At our old house we had the same problem every fall until we got cats.

have you tried sticky traps yet? just put them all over in doorwyas and such and in intersections of your house and then just pick them up when you dont want to use them. we've caught alot of mice this way, at least 7 or 8 . try it , cant hurt (just dont let the dogs get near them, they are a bitch to get off)

Really though, getting a cat isn't a safe bet because not all cats are good mousers. There also seems to be an inverse relationship between tameness and hunting ability.

We have had a few people offer us there cats to try but with two big dogs that hate cats I have to pass. Maybe if we can make it to NEBF I will put dogs in kennel and let cat in house for a couple days. Wonder if that logic would get approved by the boss?
