It sounds like he gave it a good going over, and with damage showing, there isn't much chance that the seller was trying to cover up bad repairs. I'm more concerned about the motor. You just can't tell if something'* wrong with a motor until you've driven it awhile.
Granted, they're tough motors, damn near as tough as ours', but I woulda held on to the Bonnie for a little while longer...
