Lawn mower bumper :P
Decided to practice welding, but didnt know what to do... so i looked at the lawn mower, and the scratches at the front, and decided to attempt to make a bumper..
I used a stick welder (arc welder for those unfamiliar) and iron piping, the brackets are made of steel, pretty weak, but that will break instead of the bolts holding it on breaking. Hopeing to get a bit better at welding since i might be doing more of it in days to soon come (not as a job though).
Also found out the hard way to check to make sure your materials arent bent, turned out ok on the lawn mower but it coulda went worse.

The arc welder was more then likley too much heat for that small/thin of metal....
Wire feed would have netted a WAY better result with out the warping
Looks pretty bad as'd either way if you ask me

LOL! Hmmmm perhaps someday, but i think it needs a 6" lift and 26" tires first :P
I only have an arc welder, so i was workin with what i got. The piping seemed to weld alright for me, but the steel i was a bit worried about. Found a mig welder for $500 (200 off) that i think were going for

Just practiced a bit more welding, trying to make a 90 bend, by either cutting the ends to 45 degrees each, or by bending iron. The results of actually bending it werent that great, so i got revenge and burnt a hole right through it.
As for the earlier post, the warpage wasnt from the weld, it was already warped, i remember looking at the pipe and saying to myself to not use that part... 5 min later i had totally forgotten :P
heres a couple pics (the first two i painted the pipe and finished it up)
1 - the good side
2 - and theres always a bad side to everything...
3 - murdered piece of pipe...
I probably shouldnt do any more tonight but its becoming an addictive hobby

OMG, I hate welding. I took a metal-shop class last semester, and that'* all we did was welded.
That bumper looks good. You need to make a backup and go run into a tree or something to test it out. lol

I love (mig) welding. Picked it up rather quickly at school...
My "new art" welding... took whatever scrap steel I could find, and this is what resulted..
