laurens wreck thread
well, i figured to get better visibility, id post a new thread. long story short, for those of you who dont know, lauren (the gf) got in a wreck on tuesday. she was on a 4 lane road, and someone in the left lane slowed up to let an old man in an impala turn left. lauren was in the far right lane, had a car on her left and had no idea he was coming until it was too late. she took off his front end, then ricocheted into another civic attempting to turn right out of the same parking lot the old man was entering. the airbags did not deploy, dispite 2 front end collisions, the first being at between 35 and 40 mph.
i had recall work (letter in the mail) at the honda dealer for the airbags not deploying in a front end collision in january, and had they deployed lauren would not have gotten the concussion she has now and quite possibly the whiplash.
here are some pics i took near the scene, along with some i took this morning.
her car has a broken control arm, bent tie rod and a bent/collapsed strut ontop of the obvious.

that line where the bumper meets the fender behind the headlight used to be level/horizontal. even the hood is tweaked.

Did she hit her head on the left side, or the steering wheel?
I also am curious to see how she is doing. I would like to offer some observations however, so bear with me.
1. She saw it coming, so I assume she nailed the brakes. The first hit appears to be a deflection on the LF (as mentioned), which means the car would have been shot to the right, and in turn, inertia would have put her head in to the left roof rail (curtain airbags could have helped). It looks like most of the structure in the LF was missed, so likely the hit was taken by the LF wheel (suspension damage). I assume she was still on the brakes, so, with the deflection, she of course was sent in to the car waiting to pull out for a right turn. This hit was likely minimal, probably not much of a hit at all, especially if the second car wasn't moved much, if any. Wouldn't be much more violent than the braking force alone I think.
I hate to say it, unless this car had curtain air bags, I am glad they didn't deploy. Of course, I don't know the whole story though. Tell her to take it easy for a while. I hope she starts feeling better soon!

shes gonna be fine, just th occasional headache now. and she hit her head on the window. but i think at those speeds she would have been pushed back by the airbag.
car is written off. they offered a non negotiable $4500. i think ill wait till i get the police report/other guys info and call them first. as for the rental (2013 impy ltz) i really dont like it. it has decent power, but its got too much plastic inside, the seats are uncomfortable and the suspension is wayyyy too stiff.
looked at a ford dealer today and they have a decent black grand prix... 2008 leather and a 3.8. but its 9999. little steep for me even at 40k.

just about any car is going to feel stiff compared to your car. i like it though, i dont like to float. the ltz has the monte type suspension, the lt or ls has the floaty'er suspension

supposed to get a check from progressive tomorrow. gonna go look at a malibu maxx with 125k on the clock at 3900. i think its too expensive. i paid 2200 in 2010 for my car with 108k. the malibu is only 2 years newer than my car was.
