I just bought a 1995 ford contur for 130 bucks thats a GL 4 cyl automatic with slim options. The front coil on the suspension snapped and the other one is bad the engine leaks oil alittle bit but not bad and they say the transmission has a problem but the guy says he got in it and it seems fine they say some kind of spring is about to go possibly but he dont see a problem with it other than that it runs and drives but needs that coil on the front dunno how long i can drive with the coil snapped like that.........

For me its a mix of what I want/am willing to drive, and getting good value.
So if don't mind driving it, the best value wins. In this case, by a car for $130, and thinking worst case, another $470. (mostly picked for easy math) If you can drive it for 6 months your total, your cost per month is $100. Try to buy a used bonneville for $100 a month.
Just good economics if things go your way. In acuallity, it will cost less, and hopefully run that long or longer.
Personally I don't like to drive fords, so do the net best thing. (for me anyways) I buy a used SSEI with about 24K miles on it, and expect to get over 150K on it. My cost per mile is about a low as it can be to drive EXACTLY what I want.
Do I run the risk f buying someones elses problems? Sure. Thats why some people buy new. (And I would never critize them for it)
You make your own Judgment calls on the risks your willing to take, and then get the most for your money.
But, even with the method I use, isn't going to be as cheap as this ford, if everything goes right. Smart work chap!

The guy that owns the car bought it to get his kids through high school (with part time jobs and such) and he is very big on safty and he dont wana put ne money into this car and he wouldn't let his daughter drive it in the current condition this car is going to hold me over till I can sucessfully do a engine swap with my 1988 oldsmobile cutlass ciera international coupe (lots are involved with this and for a 17 year old kid going through his last semester of high school with a part time job it takes awhile)
BTW i dont wana count my chickens before there hatched cause today my friend and I pissed off the guy that owned the car (hes a real dick) hes taking so long to get the CD player out and we keep bugging him (he says) so today he kinda snapped on us and hopefully I still will get a call in 3 days or less (I'd say its a 50:50 chance once he finds out the junk yard will only give him 35-60 bucks cause thats where the car was headed)
