im glad
I am glad that my father told me that I NEVER ever.....EVER would be a auto mechanic. NOW dont get me wrong, i have been around cars all my life, and I am the ONLY one (except for dad) to do work on my car. WE perform all regular maintainace on our vehicles, and my bonne has never been to a dealership (except under warrenty) where my dad worked on it....
Point to this....
I changed my oil today in the parking lot, no lift, no creeper, nothing. and I was filthy when done. My dad was a mechanic for GM and I'm glad that I am not, but I am glad that i have the knowledge and have the ability to service my own car...

Oh really????
Aren't you glad about the fact that you have the right to perform these periodical maintenances?
Here at my apartment if they catch you changing the oil, changing the brakes, etc...
You get fined $8000.
So, also be glad about the freedom to maintain your car!

I am not kidding. There are security vehicles that drive around here.
They also watch for "crippled cars". If you have a tire blown out, and you don't fix it for some days. Your car gets towed away.

Now that you mention Warren, I have to tell this story.
I almost got kicked out of my High School because the administration found out about my adress. I live in Troy but I am not within the Troy School District. Legally, I'm supposed to go to Warren Consolidated High School. I don't want to leave Troy High because this is my senior year. So I had to pay tuition for my last semester so that I can stay at the same high school.
But anyway, this is just one of those crazy rules.
Sorry for the interruption... let'* get back into the driving/bonneville subject.

I like Troy, but Oakland County can be weird. I live just across the border, but I work out there during the summer.
But back on topic, I'm in the same boat as you 1993 SLE. My father is a mechanic, and I am slowly learning how to work on my car from him.

I grew up in Oakland County and have no desire to live there again. I work in Wayne County now so the drive sucks from Genesee County.
Back on topic...take 3! Working on yoru own car is very rewarding, no matter of your skill level. 90% of what I do was taught to me from my dad and father-in-law. Even when I can't figure something out, I enjoy the challenge and read the books to get it done.
