Unfortunately the NorthStar seems to suffer premature death in many cases. The number in the JY'* and the info about head bolts/etc are as disheartening as the composite upper without proper clearances to the EGR stovepipe in the 3800.
I won't go head to head with Jim.. he'* a cool guy. (And the only admn to drive my car like he was 95 years old
). He drove it so nicely........
Lash..you are nothing but a troublemaker.
Doug...the gun ya gave me is a dud....
Rob.. I didn't source the N*'* and got one bad one from a yard. The yard gives a 6 month warranty with unlimited mileage.

The 4.0L and 4.6L engine married to the 4T80E is one of the best offerings out there.

Not a Northstar fan... Not saying its a bad engine either...
Here in FL I think it just gets too hot... we have seen the head bolt issues, We have seen wrist pin issues, oil consumption issues( outside the engine was bone dry )... I have heard them knocking with low mies on them.. Seen too many of them swaped out... My Shade tree got so tired of the N* that he refuses to work on them anymore...
Now with that said, I have seen my share with high miles... 150k or so.... Some were garbage and others were good...
Looking at the N* makes me think the technology came from the quad line of engines.. The N* looks exactly like a Quad with a second bank.... Even the ports in the heads like the same..
The Original N* came out in the 1992 Model year.. Its been improved a good bit much like the 3800 was..
Bill.... After dealing with that N* that many times in one car, I'd be tired of it too![Laughing](https://www.gmforum.com/gm/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Here'* the deal now.
The JY is questioning that the motor was bad. (C'mon..it'* a northstar
)
I'll be heading over there around noon to see/listen to the motor they are going to pull for us. WE will not be f'n around with this anymore than we have to. It'* already a loss for everyone involved.
