I haven't don't anything with my 8800gt yet, but I have on my GEF 4200ti and my ATI 9600xt before, with some decent results.
If you're not gaming though, doesn't matter. You're not doing any real intensive 3d modeling or rederring, so gains by stressing your video card are moot.
DO NOT adjust your PCI-E bus speed, lock it to 100mhz if you can, GPU'* don't like getting off of that 100mhz clock speed.
