I miss my 442
Man,
All these threads about problems with EGRs and MAPs and PCMs and all these other acronyms/abbreviations... makes my head spin.
What was wrong with a block, heads, a carb, some spark and a bit of gasoline?
I realize it all came about in the need to maintain/increase performance while also increasing gas mileage and lowering emissions... but jeezy weezy. I don't remember my gas mileage, but I'm pretty sure it got better/equal mileage than alot of the SUV'* out there today.
And here'* a stament that will probably **** some people off: I'd bet my stock 455 w/ram air and a 4 bbl rochester would have taken 75% of the cars in here (Not trying to start a flame war... just an old man reminiscing). That is assuming someone other than me were driving it, of course, and excluding all you guys who put so much work into your engines.
It also had a heavy duty shift kit put in. It had an automatic, but I'd get bark in every gear. And there'* nothing like the sound that beast would make when you floored it...
Good times.
Again, not trying to start a flame war. I just miss the days when there were about 3 possible places to look when you had a problem.
Now, as we old people say - get off my lawn!
