AD, you do make some good points, but I disagree with others. Coast Guard helicopters are dropping food and water because they can only take one or two people out at at time. They need bigger help.
And on top of it, the restless natives are SHOOTING at rescuers and contractors that are trying to fix the levees?
I think it'* going to get worse there.
Regardless, this forum has several policies and guidelines, which Steve violated. Then he posted this topic in the lounge, when he knew better. I'm not going to go into details due to privacy, but there'* alot more to this than meets the public eye.

After a disaster, we often look for things that may have predicted what was coming, and if it could have been prevented. Here'* an interesting article from National Geographic. I apologize ahead of time if most have already seen it.

We've had about 600 refugees housed here in G.R. The Red Cross is asking for 2 things...time or money...at least around here. They are letting other agencies handle the clothing and food areas.

This topic is straying off topic, but I think that'* a good thing right now.
Rebuilding would be stupid. It will happen again. And I think the main reason the help was late, is that the major flooding didn't happen until long AFTER the hurricane passed by, and they thought they were over the worst of it.
The port of New Orleans is very important to the US economy, so I'm sure some rebuilding will take place, but honestly, that city needs to be RAISED about 20 feet higher. I doubt more than half the former residents will ever move back.

I heard rumblings that Europe was sending gasoline, too. Since 1/4 of ours comes from the gulf and through that port.
Of course, the Hurricane wiped out probably 1/4 of the cars that BURN that fuel.....
