How long until GM folds?
#41
Ultimately, the success of GM relies on the customers. We have the buying power, and in turn, give the production power to GM. That is the basis of our economy. If you buy other cars, you are putting GM out of business. I'm not saying it'* bad or good, that'* just how it works. I like GM cars a lot. I'm not a die-hard GM only kind of person, but both of my cars so far have been GM (by choice), and I imagine most of my cars in the future will be GM. I like the company, I know the company, and I want to support American based automakers.
tl;dr : Don't complain about the economy and go by a Honda. I don't complain about getting shot and then go shoot myself, why should you?

Car manufacturers don't get any money for the resale of their cars. As far as I'm aware, GM only gets money for newly purchased cars. I don't know if I will ever purchase a brand new car, so perhaps I can never support GM directly. Off I go to buy a Honda!

My 94 was so dirt cheap! Then again, I guess it kind of deserved it. Man, this car was trashed. It'* so easy to restore, though, as long as I keep about 12 deep socket 10mm sockets all around my car. Those are handy, and I'm very satisfied with how GM has designed the Bonneville chassis. I'm not too happy about the Alero, though. It'* so in-your-face wherever you are.

Hell, even if I could afford brand new, I'd probably look for used first.
My 03 was $37,200 only 4 years ago. It'* still worth $12,000 (kbb). I got it for $8800.
I haven't had any real issues with the car in 8,000 miles since July.
If you buy new GM or any manufacturer, keeping it until it'* paid off will always benefit you most (except for certain cars).
