how do you treat telemarketer
one of my girl friends is a telemarketer and she just quit her job. she was making $15.60 an hour, but the only reason she quit was because of how bad she felt after a day of work. she said almost every person would call her the most outright dirtiest names there are. so im wondering, how do you react to these calls?
i myself go along with the shpeal for about 30 secs, talk really nice, ask them how they got my number,
"you recently purchased a healthcare product"
ummm no, so then i hang up
check this out if you got some time...

Depends on what time they call, and what kinda mood I'm in. Generally I'll waste their time as much as they're wasting mine. Like if it'* some sort of product that I woulldn't buy in a million years, then I'll act like I'm interested and get them to tell me every lil detail I can, then we get to the end of the conversation where they sign you up, I change my mind and decided that I'm not interested. Or I tell them that I don't have any credit cards or debit cards, none the less a checking account, I tell them I pay cash for everything in life.
If it'* something like the local newspaper calling to try and get us to subscribe, then I just think about what their competitors are like Star Tribune is a compitior to Pioneer Press and vice-versa. Then when the ask why you tell them their comics are better. Then they ask you if you read the rest of the paper and tell them no, I get it just for the comic section. And then tell them their pictures are way better and the comics are more thought provoking. Then they'll hang up...Normally. If they don't then you just start pulling more stupid reasons out of your rear and keep going.
If they call around dinner time, I ask for their home number, and what time they eat dinner and I'll call them back. Then they hang up too.

As long as its not some guy calling about HIS company I'm generally nice to them. I know they're just trying to pay the bills and maybe thats the only job they could get. I don't blame them that their boss told them to call me...meh

I usually just quietly and politely hang up on them. Although (this is not quite "telemarketing") a couple of nights ago, I got a phone call from an army recruiter...it was just kinda random. The funny thing about it is we had about a minute and a half of what someone would deem a normal conversation then he went into his little speech. I really didn't feel like it was right to hang up on the military-it just seemed wrong, so I went with it until i talked my way out of it (note, I have nothing against the army, actually most of my friends are in it...but definatly not for me).

I am on the do not call registry. It has significantly reduced the number of telemarketing calls I get. I usually just politely say I'm not interested. I've done that job before and it is tough!! You have to be a masochist to do that kind of job. I hated it and quit after only 2 weeks. It wasn't for me. I try to extend them some courtesy without letting them get into the wordtrack so I don't waste their time or mine.
