I've seen two Cressida'* in my life. They are probably from what? mid 80s to early 90s? They look like a old Lexus kinda. You're right about the Avalon. I saw an old review of my LSS vs. an Avalon and they said the Avalon was a snooze next to the LSS.
I had to look it up. The Cressida came with a 3 Liter inline six with 190hp @ 5600rpm; 185 ftlbs torque @ 4400rpm, and amazingly RWD! So, yup repinS the 160hp FWD Avalon can't compete with the Cresseda.

They were around in '77-'92. They're the Toyota, but pre-Lexus days. I'd say it was killed off to stop cannibalization of the ES300 and such.
