This really does kinda suck. Normally if you just bring your birth certificate and drivers licence your good to go...Damn terrorists eh?

Well here is another thing you can blame on the U.*. government. THEY are the ones that started this passport thing and Canada it "thinking" or implementing the same kind of thing, mostly as a tit-for-tat thing.

But it isn't coming into effect till 2007 or 2008.

I wouldnt say dam terrorists, Just needs to be done. I worked on the border for a year, and passports make it easier on us since birth certificates dont always have the stamp that makes them legal[raised seal stamp], so you have to check someones background on NCIC and Interpol to see if it checks out. Canada is okay and all, but I dont like the evryday border crossers in detroit...so rude and impatient.

I can see where you are coming from, it'* definatly not all the terrorists. At the pembina border crossing that I usually use, it'* usually quite busy (mainly people going from Winnipeg to Fargo or vice versa) there are quite often holdups because someone doesn't have adequate identification. The only reason Canada is doing the same is just because the US did - it'* basically a money grab from our government.

The Canada-US border is the largest unprotected border in the world, which is definatly something to be proud of and I don't think passports are too much to ask, even if they aren't always neccessary.

Just renewed mine a couple of says ago. The fee was $67.00. Starting this year the passports will have an electronic chip imbedded i it.

Hmmmm....thats odd though. Either they are going to have to send everyone a new passport/chip combo, or that technology won't be up and running completely for 10 years. By then it will be obsolete

My company sent out a company-wide email that we'll need to update our passports. I'll do it soon...no sweat for me...they pay for it!
