Well here is another thing you can blame on the U.*. government. THEY are the ones that started this passport thing and Canada it "thinking" or implementing the same kind of thing, mostly as a tit-for-tat thing.
But it isn't coming into effect till 2007 or 2008.

I wouldnt say dam terrorists, Just needs to be done. I worked on the border for a year, and passports make it easier on us since birth certificates dont always have the stamp that makes them legal[raised seal stamp], so you have to check someones background on NCIC and Interpol to see if it checks out. Canada is okay and all, but I dont like the evryday border crossers in detroit...so rude and impatient.

The Canada-US border is the largest unprotected border in the world, which is definatly something to be proud of and I don't think passports are too much to ask, even if they aren't always neccessary.
