My mom owned 2 taurii. 1st one blew a trans at 85k, replaced it, blew at 130k. Replaced it again, engine blew up at 132k.
2nd taurus had a 3.8, trans went at 111k, replaced it with a JY unit with 40k miles, blew at 115k, engine blew to bits on that one at 118k.
My aunt had 2 taurii also, hers were total nightmares.

They never shouldve cancelled the taurus int he first place, it wa sone of the dumbest things ford ever did, it was their best selling car, toyota was shaking in their boots at the thought of the next taurus killing the camry, but then ford just cancelled it for no reason, i tihnk they 500 wouldve made an ok taurus but since they cancelled it and then theyre like oh wait nevermind this is the taurus now, amateur move, trying to clean up the mistake, too late

Much like the GM counterpart, the transmissions were the first to fail.
Since there were so many on the road, it was easy to find them for next to nothing, and they were cheap to insure since parts were readily available.

To make a long story short, the 3.0 was far more reliable and much more fun to drive then any 3.8 model made... I liked the 94-95 Sable / Taurus with the 3.0 the best... And the little Vulcan sure would compare to a 3800 in terms of durability... And yes the trans 99% of the time went first
