Get it running nice and hot without driving it, then take a look under the car. See any red hot pipage?

This happened to a cavalier I had once. Would run fine until hot then it would gasp and not stay running. Was barely even able to drive. Also happened on my Gutlass Ceira, that was the only time I checked under the car and saw glowing exhaust pipes.

In fact, you should be able to pull a plug from each bank to determine which cat is shot, if not both(sooty plug). I'm assuming it'* the dual cat setup. Grand Marquis are just Crown Vics in disguise.

Check fuel pressures & a leaking fpr, check for stored codes, run a KOER test then check for vacuum leaks.

My 89' Grand marquis had 2 cats. The one closest to the manifold had to be replaced every 40K like clockwork. The rear one would last ~70-90K. I could always tell when the front one was ready to go because the engine would make a loud roar like being strained and bog down badly after about 10 minutes of driving.

BTW- How many miles are on it? Mine had 258K when it was deemed unsafe to drive so I had to get rid of it. Ran good, slowest V8 every though.

Haha, you know, yeah, the pipes were glowing i mean you could feel them sons eh bitches through the floor

yeah, i do believe that the 02 sensors are bad...probably original. therefore i wouldn't doubt that the cats are bad as well. when my friend gets back from fargo, i'll get him to run it open header

as far as the condition of the car...

it is actually not bad. it has close to no rust whatsoever, the interior is shot. and thanks to the stupid freakin 5 digit odometer, neither him nor i know how many friggin miles are on the damn thing. but its not that bad of a car if it only ran better. just gotta get rid of that STUPID weird red ford veleur interior and custom mount some AL7s

any more help is appreciated if we discover its not the cats.

thanks guys.
