if you apply for too many loans also hurts your credit but for the credit card thing I got told at my bank that I should get a visa and use it as nothing but a gas card and pay it off each month and that will do wonders for your credit. also if you have a loan and you pay it off early that helps too

Well to the best of my knowledge I currently dont have any credit. But I suppose it doesnt hurt to check.
I have a bank loan that my parents cosigned for, but its in my name, but its from a small town bank and they dont submit information to your credit report last I knew, but they will give a letter of recommendation or something like that.
The only other thing I have is my cell phone, which should show up on my credit report after I have had it for 2 years if I am not mistaken. I signed a 2 year contract with Cingular, which has not expired yet, so it probably is not on my credit report just yet.

check your credit history,
Alot of cards have annual fees and you may get hit with one and not knowing it you would then be late and your credit would be adversly affected.

Well I checked it, and sure enough, I have 2 open credit card accounts, both with 0 balances, but both were opened in October of 2006. Which seems like about the time I may have participated in some "free crap if you fill this out" thing.
My mom is pretty good with financial stuff, and she said that I need to write a letter to both companies stating that I would like my account closed, and that I want proof in writing that they were closed.
So thanks guys and gals!

Actually one of the key parts of building credit is how long you've had a line of credit open.
If one of htem has good terms or conditions, i'd keep it open as long as you can.
