I take the faceplate out in the Jeep if I'm going into a store for a while and I leave the top down.
In my car I'm still not used to having a detachable faceplate so most of the time it stays in, except when I park in an alley or something then I take it out. at least the blinking LED makes it LOOK like I have a aftermarket security system
But at home in the sticks where I live the car is never locked and I too have been known to leave the keys in it, except at night.
