End of the light bulb as we know it?
http://www.usnews.com/articles/busin...e-know-it.html
I'm not sure how I feel about this. Discuss?
The incandescent light bulb, one of the most venerable inventions of its era but deemed too inefficient for our own, will be phased off the U.*. market beginning in 2012 under the new energy law just approved by Congress.

Somewhat old news. I'm disappointed.
The replacement bulbs cost 4x more than the conventional bulbs. AND, the replacement hexil bulbs make you feel like you live in a fish tank. I hate the glow of the fake flourescent.

Most of my house is already CFL. There are some things CFL'* just don't work well for.
I have yet to see a CFL rated for the oven or microwave and they do not last when used with a photo switch.
My stair case has "safety" lights connected to a photo switch. I use 7W incandescent bulbs. I have used CFL'* but can not find them under 9W and the few seconds of flickering at sun set/rise kills the starters.

With all the technology we have, they can't even make the CFL seem less harsh. I feel like I'm living in a hositpal.
Incandescent for me untili it'* phased out.

I still like the idea of using 13w for 60w worth of light output as opposed to a general 60w bulb...

you all do realize that you can buy different frequency of light for the CFL bulbs, right? At Meijer I've seen some bulbs that are 4300k (natural daylight) I've also seen some that are around 3,000K, which I use throughout my apartment, which are pretty much identical to incandescent light bulbs.
