Does This Impress You?
The new SRT-8 models have a 6.1L V8 with 425hp and 420tq. I think its cool and really respect these cars. BUT... who can't get 425hp out of a 6.1L V8 with a mild factory cam? The 300C SRT-8 was featured on speed channel and is getting attention from all directions. Personally 425hp is what I EXPECT from a 6.1 L V8. If you want to see REAL talent, see the 3800 L67'* pushing 425hp at the WHEELS. Thats like near 500 at the crank. There is what... 55 people on the clubgp registry running better than 12'*. The new 300C SRT-8'* have been known to run 12.7'*@ 110mph. But, there is also a turbo GP that runs a 9.8@ 143mph. Why doesn't this get recognition?

i do see your point and agree with you, but lets think about this.
if you put the same amount of money into the V8 that was put in the GP to get it to run 9s....oh my heavens.
the people that can afford those kinds of cars like to have lots of power in stock form, because they dont like the thought of modifying their cars..im reminded of a story:
an older businessman pulled into our parking lot at work and was showing off his C5 Vette to one of my coworkers, it was beautiful, deep blue with red stripes, he had it all shined up, said he was getting ready to take it to a car show...he popped the hood and i glanced under and said "what? its still stock?" kinda givin him a hard time. he came back with "hell i can barely keep traction now, why modify it?"
there isnt really a good answer to your question though, cars that are fast in stock form seem to get more respect than cars that are modified to be fast....i guess because their owners had to "make" them fast.

youi have to keep in mind, that the manufacturers could probably get 700HP out of a 6.1 rather easily, but they wont for the same reasons a S2 L67 is only 240hp, RELIABILITY. if the hemi had 700hp it wouldnt be nearly as reliable of an engine, that would be subject to more under warranty repairs. besides, a 700hp engine wont get 20mpg
bnesides, how many cars are there out there that pust the 500hp mark. so yes, in stock form 400+ is impressive, especially in a huge sedan

Versus a modded car such as ours, not so much, but the fact that an American company is willing to put a vehicle such as this on the market does impress me. 15 years ago that car would have simply been a dream.
