That'* right. The '70-73 period was a weird transition period wherein all kinds of things changed many times, includeding the split bumpers to plastic 5mph uglies, but it is all still the same general cody style and therefore falls into the 3rd gen catagory.

Yes, it is possible. Many systems, particularly older ones had low pressure switches set at lower pressures than current systems. This allows the compressor to continue cycling when there is still some refrigerant in the systems, but not enough to cool things down.
Additionally, odd things, like a clogged orifice tube have the potential of making the system think it has enough refrigerant, but the cooilg cycle is interrupted.
Not too common, but not impossible.

My buddy had a '70 split bumper project last summer but sold it. I like the '70 split bumper, all first gens, and the '02 SS. Other than that I'm not a huge Camaro fan. So, I would pass on this particular car.

One of my old co-workers had a 71 with split bumpers and a 400 small block. It was a NICE car, but he sold it after a solid year of fighting fuel gremlins. He'* got a 79 Z28 now that he has JUST gotten started on after two years of getting parts from eBay and the yards.
