The roadrash is not preventable and is more noticable on the darker colored cars. I never did put on mudflaps, but those "in the know" have advised they really wouldn't help the sandblasting much ....I can't afford a new paint job and have just learned to live with it.
Edit: And the knowledge learned about the lower intake gasket failures saved my engine...replaced them (and the uppers) when I first noticed coolant loss and found the leak.

im lookin to buy a performance air filter and of course i checked out the almighty K&N but they were like $55.which is alot for a kid with very little income at all.and i also so noticed that a K&N gives only a 4% increase in HP at max. which would be like 8HP in my car at redline.would i even be able to notice that? or is there an air filter better than K&N? i dont know too much about the mechanics of cars but i know i want mine to haul

HaHa, I read a bunch of my other posts and was crackin up. I knew next to nothing back then. I dont know a ton now, but back then I barely knew how to change my oil, and I was scared at the thought of making my own intake. My how times have changed.
