I am still doing research for this and I can't take my car apart till I get a second new one to drive. Makes this a long term project but an interesting design/engineering study at least.
If they sell Sport Compact Car where you are go pick up a copy and check out their Ultimate Street Car competition. They preview the ten cars this month then post the competition results next month. The last car previewed is a 3000GT VR-4 Spyder with an estimated 700 HP. There are only a half dozen or so AWD Chassis dynos in the country so verifying HP in an AWD car with the motor in it is a real bitch.
I had thought of this before I saw that car but reading the specs on it pretty much sealed the deal

I'm glad you're back to the BC(I also like you're BA) 'cause your advise contains no BS. It looks like you've been working Overtime since your return to "save the world"(specifically BONNEVILLE'*) from the "Axles of Evil"!!!
MOST Welcome back.
MOST Welcome back.

What, you don't like the GM Ecotec 2.2L motor. The stock rods and pistons can take 275HP with no problems.... :P

Azwed, how about u spend ur money on a new car? lol. Nothing wrong with the car, but it is an 89..i'm sure you'd much rather have a 92+ body style..hell get an SSEi then modd it to hell. I don't know thats just me, it'* all want you want out of your car i supppose. Series 2 Supercharged isn't a bad option.. Sorry if i offended you at all, i didn't want to direct it like that..only a suggestion.

I don't need a big car like the bonne for a daily driver which is one reason I am getting the Cooper. That and it handles better then just about any mass produced car on the market right now.
The 3000GT powertrain conversion will be a long project. It will probably take me a a year or so just to do all the design/engineering work. I already know everything will fit but making it fit in the right way will take a lot of engineering and fabrication.
If GM comes out with an Transverse based AWD powertrain that can support the kind of power the 3000GT can I will use it but I doubt they will. Even if they do it won't have all wheel steering.
Anyway we will see. I would have to buy a complete 3000 GT in order to do the conversion and right now a 320 HP 96 version runs around 8000 dollars in decent shape so this is a long time away in the future.
