I believe the fan is partially at fault. During the course of games there are things that can cause momentum changes. This was the start and possible cause of a momentum change.
If you are sitting by the wall, and the ball is coming down in front of you, get back! It'* a natural reaction to catch the ball anywhere in the stadium, however, near the areas accessible by players on your favorite team, stand clear!
People have gone overboard on the poor guy, though. It'* a baseball game, not life or death.

I think the whole professional sports thing needs to be dialed back. When it'* 7pm Sunday on Fox I want my weekly dose of The Simpsons, not a retarded overtime football game.

Wel, I guess I am good at rooting for looser teams. I like the Tigers; I rooted for the Cubs , and I rooted for the Red Sox . I guess now I don't have to stay up until midnight each night watching the World Series. ZZzzzzzzzzz

I agree that the guy could have leaned back. (Instinctively, it'* not what I would have done, but it'* another logical choice)
But still, you gotta think of what the poor guy is going to have to go through for the rest of his life. I can't think of something that'* more of a 'worst nightmare' than this. Seriously. Imagine how it must feel to be that guy.
It could have happened to you or I or anyone. :/
I feel really sorry for him, although I have a Cubs fan as a friend who is mourning the loss.

If you watch the tape, tho, you see he'* only one of 3 or 4 going for the ball. He was just the "lucky" one to actually touch it. So suddenly, it'* all his fault...

My 2 cents:
I'm a Braves fan!!
Cubs beat the Braves to play the Marlins, so I'm glad they lost.
The guy who 'interfered' should get a body guard 24/7
No offense to Cubs fans of course....I hate the Yankees too. I was rooting for Boston last night.
