Those Scion tc'* are hot...I want one. They're supposed to be coming out with a turbo or supercharged one next year (can't remember if it is a turbo or supercharger but its one of 'em) and those are gonna be pretty sweet. Its still a Toyota, but they look damn cool, they are pretty quick, they have good warranties, and they are actually pretty nice inside. I'm a GM supporter all the way, but they're headed downhill fast...they need to get their **** together fast.

Good thing to come out of Canada? The Camaro/Firebird were manufactured in St. Therese (sp?), Quebec before their discontinuation.

Reliable Buicks are manufactured in Oshawa, Ontario, a damned fine plant that makes the Century, Regal, and Chevy Impala.

Many "import" vehicles in North America are manufactured in... North America. Namely, your GM offerings, and "imports" such as the Civic/Odyssey (Alliston, Ontario), Corolla (Cambridge, Ontario), Camry/Accord/Altima (USA), Scions (I believe), and many, many more. And interestingly enough, the GM 3.5L engine is being assembled in China.

"Import" automakers are offering models only available in North America, namely, our Honda Accord. If you look anywhere else, the Honda Accord is a dolled-down version of the Acura TSX.

Employees at Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc plants in North America are being paid quite well, as far as I know. I'd be willing to say that their compensation is comparable to those who work at any Big 3 (err, Big 4, now that Chrysler is #4 with Toyota sandwiched in at #2). Subtract the element of "import" automakers and you've quite literally taken out a large chunk of the North American economy.

Innovation? Stealing from the USA? I guess creating a body and powerplant on four wheels is stealing innovation.

Mods/Admins, if you feel this is getting out of hand, go ahead and Loctite it. I'm trying to rebut this as flame-free and in a non-personal way - just stating my opinion and backing it up, but it'* your call whether or not it can continue.

there is a reason for companies outsourcing to other countries. It'* really not that hard to see why either. Why pay an American worker $20 an hour to do the same job as somebody of another country will be more than happy to do for around $7 an hour? Americans in general are very lazy and unwilling to work compared to those of other nations. I know, I see it everyday. People want to get money without doing anything for it. I see it everyday and hear people compain that they don't have enough money, yet they don't want to work for it. Basically this is why foreign cars can be built for such a reasonable price, yet have much higher quality than American vehicles. We're overpaid to do less. It'* just the way that it is. This is how most of the world view americans as well.. rich, lazy, and unwilling to work. yeah, I am born in America, and 100% American, but I'm not going to be blind to the fact of what is really happening in our country. If you're an exception to the general person, good.

Liberals, huh? Why don't you take a look at what'* really going on in this country.
Do some research. Read up on the environmental, safety, and labor laws that concern the auto indusrty, then look at roll-call-vote recordss and see who voted for what.
In the mean time, this "liberal" suggests that you chill.

If you don't like foreign cars, don't buy them. Simple solution. Welcome to America, where we're allowed to decide for ourselves what kind of car we want.
BTW, The Japanese, Koreans, and Europeans have to meet the same emissions and safety rules the U.*.companies do, so why don't you hear them bitching about those rules like U.*. companies do? The foreign manufacturers just go ahead and quietly meet all requirements, instead of paying millions in bribes and litigation trying to get out of obeying them.

i have read you posts and took, the critisisms and i think you all make outstanding points, my "taking it personally" is a way of aggitating people and getting them to spout off in their own words and not reserved and sensored as ussuall, thanks for your responces this has been quite an intersting series of posts,

but i have a seprate resopce for the post about the so called LAZY AMERICANS, this could not be more of a bold faced lie, if America as a whole is rich, lazy, and not willing to work for what we all have then let me ask you, how did we get so rich? Ah yes, lets look back on our ansestory and take into acount the millions of fingers that were worked to the bone building and inovating this country from the ground up. And then lets take into account the two times we bailed LAZY, and appesing Europe out. Then on top of all of those monumental accopmplishments, lets take into consisderationa all of the people we feed, cloth, and within the last 5 years freed 40 million men, women and children in Afganistan and Iraq. And you have the nerve to call Americans as a whole lazy???? The lazy americans among us are a minotity of the poplulation similar to the people you "know". That is a hint to you not to be like them!!!!!!!! The country has made mistakes in the past and is guilty of those desisions, but to call everyone lazy and rich, is absolute fiction. The thing that is stifleing the country is the Elitest, Leftist, Liberals.....what these people belive and practice is backwards and contradictary to what the founding fathers based this country on..........

To get back to the original point about Consumer Reports' reliability, there is something interesting to point out. I'm relating these facts from memory, so pardon me if they're not spot-on, but Nicky is right that the Bonneville got a reliability rating of "Poor." However the Grand Prix'* reliability ratings are listed at "Good" or "Excellent" (I can't remember which). If you don't believe me, check out the 2005 car review issue of CR. Something just doesn't add up here. How can they share the same drive train but have such a disparity in ratings? Needless to say it makes me slightly guarded when reading CR opinions.
