As long as you have a lift..this is an easy motor. Things are fairly easy to get at.. and wiring harness and most things that seem tough to get to have plenty of slack to let the subframe down a little (4-6" actually) to get at them easier.

Better update. As mentioned.. overall it wasn't bad to drop it out. I think it was a 2 glove night.
Pulled it in and let if warm up a minute (who likes to work on cold crap?). Motor didn't tick...didn't anything.. ran great. Even with the water in the oil...lol Dipstick said it was overfilled and nice and creamy.
Time to change it up anyway.

Engine swap complete!
Ok.. here'* the rundown.
Took two evenings..overall timewise..not bad.
The thing that slowed us up was that the donor motor to go in was from an Alero and not another Montana Transport. The Alero has a slightly different throttle body, intake manifold, temp sensor (2 wires to the Montana'* 3 wire), motor mounts, the front engine cover is different (but workable). A lot of swapping stuff over, which is understandable on a reman motor..but timewise.. sucks if you are doing a JY motor.
Reason behind the Alero motor versus getting a Montana motor is that all the Montana'* in the area are losing their 3400'* and no one wants to fix the intake gaskets in the van. Oddly enough our Alero donor already had new lower intake gaskets. Hmmmm
All went back together easy enough. If you don't have a lift at your disposal...run from these vans with the 3400. I wouldn't attempt one w/o the full facilities.
