Proc and chip, and ram for it (if yours wont work well) should be healty for you.
The 6800 is pretty good for VPU'* so i wouldn't worry about that. I'm almost in the same boat as you, i have a 9600 XT, and a 2.26 GHZ P4 Lets say HL2 takes some loading every now and then..

Upgraded my HD on my Dim 8200 from the old 40gb hd to a new WD SE 120gb HD. After rebates final cost was 49.99. My system runs like a GXP now.
Dell Dimension 8200
768mb RDRAM
WD SE 120gb HD 7200 rpm

if you do alot of gaming i would definetely recommened an AMD 64, the +3000 was the best bang for the buck there for a while, which is when i got mine...
if you do alot of multi-tasking, multimedia, video editing and stuff like that i would say go with Intel
and as for all your junk put it on some DVDs or snag another hard drive or something.
the system i have now is very similar to the one Boreas is dreaming about, i have the same CPU,mobo, and RAM i just have an ATI Radeon X800 XL, a 80GB Western Digital SATA-HD and a 550W Aspire Chameleon PSU.
