College Major

College Major
I'm curious for those who are in college what your major is? How did you choose it? Right now I'm going into my sophomore year in college and don't know what i want to do yet... at all! Honestly I have NO clue at all. I had started a computer networking path at college but after a year of that, I decided it'* not for me, so I kind of feel like I wasted that entire year at school. Just kind of stressed because I have no idea what I want to do for a major, or what I can, or want, to do for a career. Just would like some discussion with other people with the same problem. I swear this is one of the most stressful things I've had go on before! I don't want to waste my time, but because i have no potential ideas I feel like I'm never going to do anything with my life. ideas?

Well, here'* the path that I started. First of all, I started at Community College headed towards a major in Engineering. Well, I ended up hating Calculus so that idea went right out the window. I then switched my major to computer science, but failed the intro programming C++ class so another one bites the dust. I finally ended up with Business, FINALLY! After getting my Associates from there (Thank you, Moraine Valley ) I transferred here to Illinois State University where I'm currently a double major in International Business and Insurance. I just took my Spanish-speaking ability into consideration when choosing IB, but since that'* such a general major I had to choose a specific path and everything else didn't sound good enough, so I just randomly chose Insurance. Not a bad decision on my part. It'* helped a lot already and I don't even have a career in it, yet. Just think of something you may possibly be good at or a skill that you have and put it towards a major, that'* the easiest way I think.

I orginally started out with a technical program that mainly dealed with how to fix copiers and printers...not really for me so I went thru with the computer networking path. I never got a degree but got some certificates and certifications -- stopped midway thru due to a decent job offer. Where I was it was not so much about what was on paper but what you know as far as the job dutys are concerned.
If I were to do it again I would choose a path in business adminstration since I will need to stay where I am at for a while. I cant really complain though, I can pay rent on a house, live nicely and put 1/3 of my earnings away every paycheck.
With the way the economy is right now I would make sure to choose an option that really has jobs available..and jobs that cannot be outsourced to india.

I am going to start college next year. I chose Pharmacy because the school I am going to has a good pharmacy program and I like chemistry. Pharmacists are also in high demand and are paid well.

started in Computer Engineering, but decided I liked the programming and designing of the software side better, so I switched to Software Engineering 2 years into it. I am enjoying it now.

I start in the fall also, automotive mechanical engineering.
I've always loved cars and I have always wanted to make them better...this (hopefully) is that path that will allow me to do that.

Majoring in Criminal Justice
Minoring in Computer Information Systems
I originally started majoing in CIS, but I didn't like all the programming. It wasn't for me. I thought a minor would be more suitable. I took a CJ-101 class during my freshman year and became very interested in it. I decided that I would then start to major in CJ. I figure there are many types of careers within that system that deal with computers (forensics, cybercrime and identity theft prevention, etc.), and I think it would make for an interesting career.
I'm going in to my 3rd year.
