id take the corp 100x over... the mom and pop shop i work for now is a total headache everyday...
currently looking for another higher paying, more benafits, more room to grow job

Getting promoted: I guess that'* a matter of choosing tasks with the right amount of visibility and doing them well. Can be done in a big corporation, can be done in a medium corporation. Not sure about a mom and pop organization... however I guess that if they treat you well then you are set there too!
Over time you'll see what I'm talking about.
At least with a corporation you get some type of severance!!!! Mom and pop folds and you are done. If they aren't producing anything, doesn't matter how nice of a person you are or how much they like you. They aren't going to pay you.
